AmeriCorps Week 2011 in Lawrence County!

Lawrenceville City Hall provided a banner for our group that is being displayed during AmeriCorps Week over 12th Street in Lawrenceville, IL.

Thursday, May 12, 2011: Signing of proclamation

                Jonathan and I met with Lawrenceville City Mayor Brian Straub for him to sign our local Mayoral AmeriCorps Week Proclamation. The Daily Record was there at the signing and took our picture, which was then published in the Friday, May 13, 2011 edition of the newspaper.

Monday, May 16, 2011: Pictures in the Park
               
                Local families attended our event in the Lawrenceville City Park. We were able to provide them with a free CD uploaded with their family picture that was taken by our volunteer photographer, Rosie Anderson along with a gift card for a local restaurant, privately donated to us.

Tuesday, May 17, 2011: Lawrence County Resource Guide Distribution

                Jonathan and I went to local organizations such as, radio station, newspaper, law enforcement, public officials, health department, hospital, and city hall, to distribute the newest version of the Lawrence County Resource Guide. It is a resource guide aimed for juveniles to find resources that serve Lawrence County.

     
  
Wednesday, May 18, 2011: Bingo at the Lawrence County Senior Citizen’s Center & Mentoring Meeting

                At 11 am Jonathan and I will be volunteering at the Lawrence County Senior Citizen’s Center to help with their weekly bingo game. We plan to spend at least one hour at the center, volunteering and visiting with the elderly community.

                In the evening we hosted our third meeting with the newly created Advisory Board for the Lawrence County Mentoring Program which we are in the process of rejuvenating to be a full service mentoring program to youth ages 5-17 that reside in Lawrence County.

Thursday, May 19, 2011: Lawrence County Resource Guide Distribution

                We were back in the community to finish the distribution and letting local organization’s know of the work we do for their home community!
